CHICAGO — Gov. J.B. Pritzker has extended the stay-at-home order through the end of April.
At the state’s daily COVID-19 press briefing Tuesday, Pritzker said that the stay-at-home order would be extended through April 30.
Pritzker made it clear that the order is being extended because of hospital capacity throughout the state as well as to keep limiting new cases as much as possible.
Pritzker said that only 41% of ICU beds are empty at this time, a 2% decrease from his address at the same time last week. Around 24% of total state ventilators are occupied by COVID-19 patients, said Pritzker.
In addition, schools will transition to remote learning days. Pritzker said all days will count as school days, and he sees no reason that any should not count.
Pritzker also said that he has relied on top experts to help make his decisions.
The stay-at-home order has been in effect since March 21.
The state of Illinois has 5,994 COVID-19 cases after 937 new cases were announced Tuesday along with 26 additional deaths. The death total in the state is now at 99.
