On Tuesday, July 9, Peoria City Council members will consider an agenda item that is geared at increasing security for all Peoria residents.
It is a request to approve a plan to use $50,000 of city funds to help provide Ring security cameras at a discount to Peoria residents.
Ring LLC would provide 1,000 “subsidy codes” giving residents a $100 discount on one Ring security product. The city would cover half of each discount.
The agreement with Ring LLC would not require residents to provide any recordings to the city or police, but residents are being asked to register the cameras with police in an effort to help solve crime.
