PEORIA, Ill. – Five Peoria residents are facing federal charges for fraudulently getting money from the COVID-19-caused federal Paycheck Protection Program.
The five — aged between 25 and 44 — all face counts from a federal grand jury of Wire Fraud and Making False Statements.
All occurred at various times in 2021 in Peoria County, the latest such fraud allegedly happening in August of that year.
The five have been issued summonses to appear in federal court in Peoria for arraignment.
Each wire fraud count carries a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted — five years each for making a false statement.
