PEORIA, Ill. — Several teenage suspects are charged and a victim is left scarred following a reported violent purse snatching and car theft in Peoria Monday night.
Peoria Police released details Tuesday evening.
Half a dozen teenage suspects reportedly attacked the victim as she was grabbing things from her car on the UnityPoint parking deck off Northeast Glen Oak Avenue.
They then sped off in her car.
Police say they caught up with the teens about 30 minutes later around Knoxville and Thrush (around 10 p.m.) and a brief car chase ensued, ending with the stolen car crashing into a light pole near St. Philomena.
Cops took three of the teen suspects, a girl and two boys, into custody, charging them with a variety of counts related to vehicle theft and obstructing police.
One of the teens already had two warrants out in Peoria County.
They’re all now in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center as an investigation continues.
Police say a firearm was recovered from the stolen vehicle.
Police released additional details about the individuals detained in connection with the incident;
• 17 year old female: Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and Obstructing Police
• 15 year old male: Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Police, (2) Peoria County
Warrants – Failure to Appear for Leaving the Scene and an Illinois Department of Correction
Warrant – no bond.
• 15 year old male: Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Obstructing Police
All three arrested individuals were transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
