One person was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries after a shooting in Peoria’s East Bluff.
Peoria police Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert of seven rounds fired near the corner of Arcadia and California around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Officers found the victim on a porch shot multiple times, including once in the neck.
The shooting did not seem to phase East Bluff resident Matthew Smith, 15.
“It feels like a little pop, pop. Like, what is that? It’s going to happen. There’s going to be a lot of shootings around here,” Smith said.
Neighbor Kristen Meierkord says she has no plans on leaving the East Bluff, but it’s getting harder to explain to her daughter what those frequent loud pops are.
“She’s always asking me, ‘Is that fireworks, is that gunshots?’ What do you say to a kid like that, she’s six,” Meierkord said.
Smith and Meierkord spoke with news partner 25 News.
The investigation continues and no suspect information has been released.
Anyone with information is urged to the Peoria Police Departments (309-673-4521) or Crime Stoppers anonymously (309-673-9000).
