ELMWOOD, Ill. – The quick thinking of a child helped everyone escape a fire in an Elmwood home, but the home itself is destroyed.
The fire broke out Tuesday at a home on South Althea Street, triggering a response from eight departments.
Elmwood Fire Chief Robert Tannock tells 25 News a child close to ten years old got his mother and pets to evacuate safely.
An investigation into the cause continues. Homes in the area were under a boil order for a time because of the heavy use of water to put the fire out.
