CHICAGO, Ill. – COVID-19 is, in a sense both up and down in the State of Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says compared to only two counties last week, now there are four counties now that have elevated levels of COVID-19 spread.
Unlike last week, though, when the counties were in the eastern part of the state, the four counties at “medium” are in the southern part of the state.
No counties are at high, meaning the rest are at “low”, including the Tri-Counties.
The number of new cases this past week is at 3,963, compared to 5,278 the week before.
It’s the first time in recent weeks the number of new cases was lower than 5,000.
“Illinois continues to see low COVID-19 case rates across Illinois,” said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra, in a news release. “As only two weeks remain until the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency and statewide disaster declaration, it is important for residents to understand how they will be affected. The good news is that access to COVID-19 vaccinations and certain treatments, like Paxlovid, will generally not be affected as coverage will transfer from the public health system to more traditional health care coverage.
