Peoria wants your input.
Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says residents and business owners are invited to attend a public budget meeting Monday night to learn more about the 2020-2021 budget.
“We’re gonna kind of lay out what the fiscal landscape looks like for the City of Peoria for 2020 and 2021,” Urich said.
At the meeting, the public will be able to give feedback as well as input on their priorities.
“The good news is even with some negative factors like declining property values, a little bit lower sales tax growth than we’d like to see, and fewer people living in the region, we’re seeing our job growth numbers are growing faster than Chicago, and faster than the nation as a whole.”
“We’re seeing that with changes in state law, we’re leveling the playing field on internet sales, so more sales tax is coming in,” Urich said.
He tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan,”We’re gonna see more motor fuel tax. I know everyone complained about the motor fuel tax increase that just went into effect, but everyone complained about the potholes–so this will give us more money to address that.”
The public budget meeting will be held at the Gateway Building, 200 NE Water Street, Monday, August 5, at 6 p.m.
If you cannot attend, the meeting will be taped and available on the city’s YouTube Channel as well as public access.
