INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ESPN) — It was an exciting day Sunday at the 107th Indianapolis 500…a race Josef Newgarden desperately wanted to win.
In his 12th attempt, Newgarden finally won the famed race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He did it by passing defending Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson during a 2.5-mile sprint to the finish.
Newgarden, the 32-year-old from Nashville, is the first American to win Indy 500 since Alexander Rossi in 2016.
