PEKIN, Ill. – Pekin Police are investigating what they say is a Reckless Homicide after two people died early Thursday morning.
Chief John Dossey says officers went to Caroline and Second Streets around 1:45 a-m when a passerby found two people near the street with serious injuries.
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
It’s believed the two were struck by a car, a 2015 Chrysler 200 with Illinois plates of CH13681.You can see a picture above.
Since the chief released that information, 25 News learned that police found a burning car Thursday afternoon near I-155. So far, it’s not clear if that is connected to the hit-and-run case.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley says both autopsies are scheduled for this (Friday) morning.
Pekin Police, the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, the Tazewell County and Peoria County Coroner’s Offices, as well as Illinois State Police are investigating.

Dossey says it’s believed the two were struck by a car, and it’s believed to have been a 2015 Chrysler 200 with Illinois License Plate CH 13681. You can see a picture above. He says if you see the vehicle, do not approach it, and instead call police immediately.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley says identities will be released after autopsies scheduled for Friday morning.
