PEORIA, Ill. – A federal jury on Thursday found a Metamora man guilty of trying to pay for sex with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl, a crime that could put him behind bars for the rest of his life.
49-year-old Dana Curtin, of Metamora, was found guilty of a single count of attempted sex trafficking of a minor, for incidents from March through May last year, when he spoke with someone he believed to be an adult offering sex with a child.
Court records show Curtin and an undercover FBI agent texted. Curtin allegedly said he was willing to pay $150 for 30 minutes with a 12-year-old girl and arranged a meeting.
Federal agents arrested Curtin last May when he showed up to meet the undercover agent and the child.
Curtin faces 15-years to life in prison, with a fine of up to $250,000. If he’s released from prison, he would have to register as a sex offender.
Curtin’s sentencing is set for Oct. 18.
