BELLEVUE, Ill. – A man remains wanted by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department after he was seen waving a gun from a car.
It happened around 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Bellevue area.
A slow-speed chase ensued briefly when the vehicle was stopped on the eastbound spur of Interstate 474 from Maxwell Road, a Hispanic male fled into the woods in the area.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says the deputies heard shots fired from the wooded area while they were questioning the female driver.
Watkins says that driver is in custody, but attempts to use drones and a K-9 to find the male were unsuccessful.
If you see an armed man, you’re urged to call the Sheriff’s department or Crime Stoppers, but don’t approach him.

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriffs Department is looking for a gunman who fled a traffic stop near the Peoria County Jail.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says the incident started prior to nine p-m near the Maxwell spur off Interstate 474 near the Peoria County Jail, after calls of an armed man.
Watkins says when deputies tried to stop the man’s car, he instead got out and ran, fled into a field near the Deluxe Estates Mobile Home Park, and likely fired that gun.
He’s described as a white or Hispanic male, and is wearing a white t-shirt, white shoes, and light-colored pants.
You’re advised not to approach him if you see him, but instead call the Sheriffs Department or Crime Stoppers.
