PEORIA, Ill. – A devastating fire at a West Peoria apartment building has been deemed accidental.
The night of June 20th, twelve units at the Edgewood Apartments on W. Radan Court were destroyed.
The fire forced two children to jump from the third floor, landing safely on a bed sheet held by a group of people on the ground.
West Peoria Fire Chief Terry Schadt tells 25 News the specific cause of the blaze is still undetermined, and there’s no criminal case.
Seventeen people were displaced by the fire. Damage is now estimated at $2.25 million.
Schadt says the building will be demolished, and the fire department has plans to honor several people – first responders and civilians – who acted quickly the night of the fire.
