MACKINAW, Ill. (25 News) — A child’s death Friday night in Mackinaw near the Mack-A-Fest carnival prompted some in the Tazewell County community to express their sorrow on social media.
The child died after being struck by a vehicle on Main Street about 9 p.m., according to a person familiar with the situation. Mackinaw Police and fire officials were not immediately available to explain what happened, but the source said the vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
The tragedy also led Mack-A-Fest organizers to cancel the third and final day of activities out of respect for the child’s family.
Late Friday night, there were requests for prayers on social media.
“Please pray for our town of Mackinaw! We had a horrible accident tonight and we could use the prayers,” said one man in a Facebook post.
“Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers,” said a Mackinaw woman in a post.
