It’s back to school season, and teachers want to welcome students back.
As a part of Peoria Public School’s “Because We Care” campaign, teachers from Roosevelt Magnet School went door to door Wednesday, to check in and remind students that school starts next week.
Roosevelt Magnet School Principle, Cindy Clark, said going to see the kids before school starts is a personal touch.
“They’re good kids, and we look forward to them coming,” Clark said.
While going door to door, teachers remind students who had 8 or more absences last year the importance of going to school.
Beth Bowers who teaches 3rd grade, said it is crucial to have good attendance.
“Because when they are gone they miss a lot,” Bowers said. “So, we want them here every day if possible”.
About 25-30 teachers volunteered their time to visit the students.
Sixth grade teacher Jennifer Jacobs said that going to a student’s house shows the students that they do care.
“Whether they show that they are exited or not, I think that they really are,” Jacobs said.
