PEORIA, Ill. — The City of Peoria is asking residents to give their input on how the city should spend more than $36 million in COVID-19 relief funds.
The funds must be obligated by the end of the year in 2024.
The federal government allocated $350 billion for state and local governments in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
The city overall will receive more than $47 million in Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.
The Peoria City Council voted in June to use just over $10 million of that money to eliminate the need to issue working cash bonds in 2021 and to curtail furloughs for affected non-union employees.
The survey, found at peoria.gov/engagepeoria, will be open until 5:00 p.m. on August 19. Residents can also email additional comments to engagepeoria@peoria.gov.
Projects and programs will be proposed for funding to the City Council based upon the community priorities.
The first of three community meetings regarding the funds will be held July 29 at 6 p.m. To participate, send a message to the email listed above.
The meeting will also be live-streamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
