PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in central Illinois are climbing.
GasBuddy reports that the average price of unleaded in the Peoria area is $3.88/g. That’s a 10.5 cent increase from last week, up 29.6 cents from last month, but down 33.2 cents from this time last year.
The lowest price listed in the area was $3.69/g, with the highest at $3.99/g.
AAA is reporting similar numbers, with the average price in the Peoria-Pekin metro area at $3.88/g. That’s up 8.9 cents from last week, 27.1 cents higher than a month ago, and 35.9 cents cheaper than one year ago.
Both GasBuddy and AAA say the statewide average has crossed the $4 mark. GasBuddy is reporting the average price in Illinois at $4.04/g, up 6.9 cents from last week. It lists the lowest price in the state at $3.37/g, with the highest at $5.19/g.
AAA’s state average is $4.05/g, which is up 6.4 cents from last week, 19.5 cents from one month ago, and 38.5 down from one year ago.
GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan, says the increases at the pump could be slowing down soon.
“Average gasoline prices continued to move up last week thanks to a continued rise in oil and continued pressure from hot weather that impacted refineries. However, the pace of increases has started to slow down over the last few days, and for now, appears to have hit a peak over the weekend and is beginning to gently fall,” said De Haan.
De Haan says that could change with hurricane season approaching.
