NORWOOD, Ill. – A Norwood man confessed to starting two fires at houses near where he lives within the past week.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says the first was reported at around 12:30 A.M. Thursday in the area of Lamoine and Boyd. It was reportedly started by a “Molotov cocktail.” The fire was immediately put out.
The second fire was reported at around 11:15 P.M. Sunday in the same area as the previous one. The fire was put out by the homeowners with a garden hose. There were no injuries in either fire.
Deputies identified 34-year-old Troy Smith as a suspect, and discovered that he fled into nearby woods. Smith was found at his house about an hour later.
Smith reportedly admitted to starting the fires. He was then arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Arson. He was booked to the Peoria County Jail.
