CHICAGO – Several people may have been hurt after a shooting inside Guaranteed Rate Field during a Chicago White Sox game Friday night.
According to WFLD-TV, a person sitting in the bleachers between sections 161 and 162 was hurt, but other reports indicate two people were hit. In that report, one was hit in the leg, while another sustained a graze wound.
A third person is also believed to have been injured, but not shot.
Chicago Police later scheduled, then canceled, a briefing with the media, saying the incident was under investigation.
A post-game concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, and Rob Base was canceled, likely because of the shooting, but a scoreboard message blamed “technical difficulties.”
The game, however, was still played. The White Sox lost to Oakland 12-4.
WFLD reports game attendees have to pass through metal detectors to get in the park, so it’s not clear how someone might have gotten a gun into the ballpark.
