CHICAGO – It’s not going away right away, but McDonald’s is preparing to do away with one of the reasons you might still go there.
McDonald’s says it will eventually do away with the self-service beverage stations at all restaurants over the next ten years.
“This change is intended to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering points, whether that’s McDelivery, the app, kiosk, drive-thru or in-restaurant,” the company told FOX Business in a statement.
Anyone wanting a drink refill will have to get one from a server.
Some McDonald’s restaurants have already done away with the self-serve fountains, but are expected to be phased out at all locations by 2032.
According to FOX Business, franchisees believe several factors may be at play, including the COVID-19 pandemic minimizing human contact, increasing use of the automatic drink-filling machines already in use at drive-thrus, and the need to lessen theft.
