PEORIA, Ill. – A fire that started in the kitchen of a Peoria home Tuesday night left a family of eight with no place to stay.
Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Calhoun said the residents evacuated before crews arrived around 7:15 p.m. on W. Sunnyview Drive, near W. Sussex Road and N. Woodview Avenue.
Firefighters saw light smoke coming from the front of the home, and the fire was in the kitchen.
An investigator determined the fire was accidental.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family with temporary housing.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
