PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters and emergency crews were called around 5:30 p.m. Monday to a fire in the 1800 block of N. California Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the stairs going to the home’s second floor, and fire in two upstairs bedrooms.
Firefighters searched the house and found no one inside.
The utilities were cut, and the house was ventilated.
Crews remained on the scene for roughly an hour and a half extinguishing hot spots.
A fire investigator determined the cause of the fire was arson.
The tenants were not at home at the time of the fire and will be displaced.
No injuries were reported.
Damage is estimated at $70,000.
