PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police were called just before 5:30 p.m. Monday to the 500 block of Haungs Avenue where officers noticed a strong smell of ammonia coming from an alley.
Police observed a man entering a camper parked in the back of a property where two people were inside. They could tell that the smell was coming from the camper as they approached it.
Public Information Officer Semone Roth said PPD blocked off the alley on Madison, and a perimeter was set up around the property to prevent any injuries to the public if a chemical explosion occurred.
The Fire Department and a HazMat team were also called to the scene.
One man ran from police as they made contact, but was caught and arrested.
Illinois State Police told Peoria Police there was a suspected meth lab on the property, but it was believed that one of the suspects that fled the scene took the mobile lab with them.
32-year-old Chelsea Miller was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and active warrants, 35-year-old Michael T. Lorance, and 37-year-old Paul M. Salamon were both arrested on warrants.
Police found a gram of meth on the property.
