UPDATE – Peoria, Ill. – A Manual High School senior has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Jerry L. Snipes, Jr., 17, of Peoria was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center at 5:16 a.m. Wednesday. An autopsy revealed Snipes suffered multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body and likely died minutes after the incident.
Peoria Police were called to the area of Linn Street and Corrington Avenue around 4:41 a.m. on a Shot Spotter alert of multiple rounds fired.
The incident remains under investigation.

PEORIA, Ill. — A man is dead following a shooting early Wednesday morning in Peoria.
The incident happened near the intersection of Corrington Avenue and N. Linn around 4:40 a.m.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
“When they arrived, there was a victim there with an apparent gunshot wound. He was initially responsive on-scene…he was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Harwood said.
The victim has not been identified.
“Right now, my staff is going to work diligently on trying to get an identification on this person, and than we can make notification to the family,” Harwood said.
An investigation by Peoria Police and the Coroner’s Office is ongoing.
