CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Rainfall in the past week helped reduce drought conditions in central Illinois.
The latest U.S Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows that all of Tazewell and Woodford Counties were “abnormally dry.” The week prior, both counties were in “moderate” drought conditions.
Most of Peoria County is also “abnormally dry” after most of the county was in “moderate” drought last week. Only 4.19% of the county along the north-central border has no drought conditions.
The National Weather Service reports that even with above average temperatures, the Peoria-area received, on average, around 1.8 inches of rain in the past week.
Drought levels are also slowly decreasing across Illinois. 21.5% of the state is experiencing “moderate” drought conditions, mainly in the west-central and Wisconsin border portions. Last week, 28.6% of the state was in “moderate” drought.
