TREMONT, Ill. – (25 News) – Tremont High School hosted a robotics competition Saturday where some massive machines entered the arena to battle it out.
It was the “Roboteers Rumble” – named after a local team completely made up of high school students.
The Tremont High School gym became a robot arena, featuring a ton of different sports and obstacles for 18 robot teams to compete.
After a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event was one of the first offseason events hosted in Tremont.
“It’s amazing to be in first robotics. We all get to experience a community feeling and we are all kind of like a big family. We are really close, encourage each other, and we are competitive. It is just awesome all around,” Tremont High junior Sean Connell said.
Connell said one of the best perks of robotics is getting to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics – or, “STEM”.
“Some of these students are going to go into business careers, engineering careers, computer science – a bunch of different areas,” Roboteers mentor Ben Martin said. “This competition really gives them the chance to experience that in a fun and exciting way so that they want to go on to do something like that in the future.”
Out of the 18 teams, there were three winners that received trophies and bragging rights.
Bradley University will host a regional robotics competition in 2022.
