PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is moving to another important part of the city’s resident and business population.
After recent work to highlight black-owned businesses in the city, “Discover Peoria” is now shifting to Hispanic-owned businesses, according to CEO JD Dalfanso.
“We’re just giving the blood, sweat, and tears that go in to operating small businesses, particularly in the Hispanic population,” said Dalfanso.
Dalfanso says the past effort to promote black-owned businesses worked, so this should, too.
“We don’t ask them to share, necessarily, some of the percentages, or some of the data,” said Dalfanso. “But, we do get…word of mouth confirmation that our work alongside their businesses has generated more revenue and more business traffic through their doors.”
Dalfanso says the Discover Peoria website and social media platforms will tell the stories of 24 different Hispanic-owned businesses, at a time when they may make up only six-point-three percent of the city’s population, but the 2020 Census indicates that’s growing.
