PEORIA, Ill. –One person is dead after a fire in Peoria Thursday morning.
Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger says a passerby went to a nearby fire station just before 7 a.m., saying there was smoke coming from a home on N. Gale, near Richwoods Boulevard.
The fire was mostly contained to a bedroom, but smoke spread throughout the house.
A firefighter suffered an elbow injury trying to rescue the victim.
Sollberger says this is the first fire fatality in two years.
The house is a total loss, and the cause is under investigation.
