PEORIA, Ill. – A man who was killed in a Peoria house fire Thanksgiving night suffered smoke inhalation and burns, according to the Peoria County coroner.
An autopsy was conducted Saturday on Terry Slaughter, Sr., 66. Slaughter was found on the floor of the home in the 1600 block of S. Livingston when firefighters arrived just after 10:30 p.m.
Flames could be seen coming a window at the front of the home when first crews arrived.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said in addition to severe smoke inhalation, the autopsy revealed Slaughter suffered burns over 75 percent of his body. Toxicology results are pending.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria emergency crews were called just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday to a home in the 1600 block of S. Livingston
on reports of a fire.
Flames could be seen coming from a window at the front of the home. Once inside, firefighters found a victim on the floor with no signs of life.
One person was found inside the home — identified by the Peoria County Coroner as Terry Slaughter, Sr., 66.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
