PEORIA, Ill. – It’s not much compared to last week, but gas prices in central Illinois continue to fall.
GasBuddy reports the average price of a gallon of unleaded in the Peoria area sits at $3.43/g, 1.3 cents cheaper than last week. The price is 22.2 cents cheaper than one month ago, and 85.1 cents cheaper than one year ago.
The lowest price in the Peoria area is $3.07/g, with the most expensive at $3.99/g.
AAA is reporting an average price of $3.44/g in its Peoria-Pekin metro survey. That’s 3.7 cents cheaper than one week ago, 24.6 cents cheaper than one month ago, and 83.9 cents cheaper than one year ago.
Both surveys are reporting small drops in the average price in Illinois. GasBuddy is reporting the state average sits at $3.48/g, down 4.7 cents from the past week. AAA is reporting an average of $3.52/g, down 3.9 cents from last week.
GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan sees the trend of falling prices continuing.
“With cooler weather comes cooler gasoline prices, and as we inch closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, prices will continue to fall virtually coast to coast. Eight states are now seeing average gas prices below $3 per gallon,” saidDe Haan. “While the national average is now at its lowest since March, the decline is likely to continue for at least another couple of weeks, with California likely soon falling below $5, while more states fall under $3. Millions of Americans already have access to $2.99/gal or cheaper, and I expect that number to continue to grow this week.”
