PEORIA, Ill. – A master plan will be developed that will identify and prioritize needs for renovation projects at the Peoria County Jail.
The Peoria County Board Thursday approved a $275,000 contract with a Chicago-based firm that will develop the Jail Master Plan.
Officials say there were a few projects in the 2023 Fiscal Year budget for the jail, but the county’s “pay as you go” policy would have made prioritization difficult.
What’s more, county documents indicate, the deteriorating conditions at the jail have made it hard to recruit corrections staff, and several former inmates have lawsuits outstanding over the conditions.
It’s not clear when the master plan will finish being developed.
