PEKIN, Ill. (25 News) – Becky Cloyd, a former mayoral candidate, took to Facebook Monday to announce she is resigning as a Pekin city council member.
Cloyd believes she was silenced during her time on the council. She says that she did not agree with what was going on behind the scenes.
“I can no longer do what I originally planned to do, and that is to come in and to try to make a difference. I believe my brakes have been put on. I see the next year and a half-which is the remainder of my term as a no-win, said Cloyd.
Pekin mayor Mary Burress said she was shocked to find out about Cloyd’s departure.
Cloyd said she is not appointing anyone as her replacement at this time. However, she does plan on finding a replacement within the next 60 days.
“I want to do everything legal and right. Get the right person in here that’s willing to step up and do what’s right for Pekin. l’m looking forward to finding a great replacement,” the mayor said.
Cloyd, meanwhile, said she plans on serving the city in other ways.
