A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday at UnityPoint Health-Pekin to celebrate completions in the $8 million renovation project.
The renovation includes a new main lobby, which will offer quick access to registration and laboratory services, said Dr. Keith Knepp, Regional CEO.
“All of this is about our commitment to enhancing quality and access of health care services,” Knepp said. “And it’s our goal to make health care services easier and more personal”.
Billing staff will also be added to the new main lobby, for easier access for questions regarding billing.
The urgent care space has also been updated, including a wider door for easier wheelchair access. There have also been changes to the nursing station.
“Brand new nursing station space that opens up that area, gives better visability for patient monitoring, and just more working space for the nursing staff,” Knepp said.
Also included in the renovations, which will continue into next year, is new technology with radiology.
“We’ve purchased a brand new CT scanner that’s installed now,” Knepp said. “This does faster CT scans, and also newer CT scanners do the imaging with less radiation”.
Later this year, they hope to install a nuclear spec CT scanner. The nuclear images can help detect cancer, blood clots in the lungs, and infections, according to Knepp.
Next year, the hope is to install a new MRI machine.
“We believe the future is bright here in Pekin”, Knepp said.
