PEORIA, Ill. – A way to honor those whose lives were lost in battle is once again on display through the holidays at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
The museum is one of three locations in Central Illinois to host a “Fallen Tree of Honor” – a Christmas tree with ornaments and memorials to our local heroes.
But, the one here may be a bit different.
“We have tried to put the same ornaments on in each of the cities. Here, we have photographs of the fallen heroes on many of them,” said Chris Doscotch, a veteran and a board member of America’s Gold Star Families, to 25 News. “In Decatur and Bloomington, we have the names along with their service branch and their birthday and the dates that they passed. So it’s the same heroes, just in a different location.”
There are more than 400 ornaments on the tree here. The other two trees are in Bloomington and Decatur.
