MAPLETON, Ill. – A chicken coop and a machine shed were damaged after a fire Friday morning in rural Mapleton.
Logan-Trivoli Fire Chief David Tuttle says firefighters arrived at a home on Riekena Road just before 8:30 A.M. to find the coop fully engulfed.
The fire was contained to the coop and shed before it could spread to a large propane tank.
The homeowner suffered minor burns while trying to rescue chickens and a turkey and was treated on scene.
The fire was determined to be accidental.
Damage is estimated at $60,000.
