PEORIA, Ill. – The winter storm we might have tolerated on Christmas Day is a week late.
The New Year is starting off with a Winter Storm Warning until 6:00 a.m. Sunday for Peoria County, while Tazewell County is under a Winter Weather Advisory for that same time period. Four to six inches of snow is forecast in Peoria, with less to the east
Our news partner 25 News Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins explains why.
“Areas along and west of the Illinois River, including Peoria, can expect four to six inches,” said Collins. “There will be a sharp cut off to a wintry mix east of the river, which will see lower accumulations.”
Parking bans may be in effect in your community so that snow plows can do their jobs.
But, Collins says, that’s not the only reminder we’ll get that we’re still in winter.
“Cold air comes in behind the snow,” said Collins. “We’ll see single digit lows and double digit below zero wind chills Sunday morning. We’ll see actual air temperatures below zero Monday morning.”
Temperatures improve for at least a few days next week.
