GALESBURG, Ill. – A Peoria man will be in prison for the next 12 years after being sentenced for a fatal crash that killed a Mackinaw man.
41-year-old Travis Williams was sentenced on Monday after he had pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence.
Williams was driving the wrong way on Interstate 74 near Knoxville the morning of October 17th, 2021, when his vehicle hit head-on one being driven by 35-year-old Kenneth Yeater. Yeater was pronounced dead at the scene, while Williams was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin says evidence was presented at the sentencing hearing that Williams had a prior DUI and was on federal parole at the time of the crash.
Williams could have been sentenced up to 14 years in prison. He must serve 85% of his term.
