NAPLES, Fla. (FOX News) – Lawmakers have been the target of “swatting” at their homes in the past week.
Swatting involves targeting an individual by calling in a false police report for a violent crime to the home of the target. The intention is to have a SWAT team response to the home.
FOX News reports Senator Rick Scott (R-Florida), Representative Brandon Williams (R-New York), and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) have been victims of swatting since Christmas. Boston Mayor Michelle Woo (D) has also been targeted recently.
“These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family,” Scott wrote Thursday in a post on X. He says the incident occurred while having dinner with his wife, and not home when the call was made.
Greene, who was a victim of swatting on Monday, wrote on X that she had been swatted multiple times. Those include false reports of shootings at her home. She announced on Wednesday plans to introduce legislation for harsher penalties for those found guilty of swatting.
