CHICAGO, Ill. – Frigid temperatures is not stopping the flow of migrants from the United States southern border into Chicago.
FOX News reports that, as of Wednesday night, 324 people are being housed in eight city buses to try and keep them warm, as wind chills in Chicago could reach as low as -30 through Wednesday morning.
Another 15,000 migrants are already being housed in brick-and-mortar shelters, while another 600 are awaiting placement.
The buses for the latest flow of migrants are not being modified to make it possible for people to lay down to sleep. The new flow of migrants reportedly do not have changes of clothing, a place to shower, or know where their next meal will come from.
Mayor Brandon Johnson says the full force of the city is prepared to support the new arrivals.
“My administration along with multi-aid organizations, community partners, and inter-governmental partners, all of us have been hard at work to coordinate shelter, and provide food, hygiene, health care services to our new arrivals,” Johnson said.
Johnson and other lawmakers have called for more assistance from the federal government to address the migration surge in their communities.
