PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria says another special enforcement detail that is a part of his 2022 anti-violence initiative has once again netted a number of arrests.
The chief says in a news release that nearly 30 officers participated in Wednesday’s detail looking for criminal offenders.
Ten arrests were made — among them, 27-year-old Robert White, who’s accused of murder for the city’s first two homicides of the year.
In addition to the arrests, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia was seized, three vehicles were impounded, and ten tickets were issued.
The chief also says a traffic stop on West Ann Street resulted in three people being arrested on weapons charges, and the driver being booked for allegedly resisting arrest. Three allegedly-loaded guns were seized as well.
“By now you know that our commitment to rid the streets of violent offenders is just that, a commitment,” said Echevarria, in the news release. “Our police officers and other local law enforcement agencies will continue to conduct these patrols and arrest those who are breaking the law. We won’t stop until our citizens can walk the streets of their neighborhoods and feel safe. That’s my goal and that’s my promise to you.”
