UPDATED 5:24 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – We now know who the victim of Peoria’s second homicide of this year was, and what happened that led to his death.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Marcus Whitehead, 18, of Bloomington was shot and killed last night on West Lincoln Avenue.
The shooting happened in the 5:00 p.m. hour, and Whitehead was pronounced dead on the scene about 45 minutes later, an autopsy indicating multiple gunshot wounds and internal injuries.
Police say it started as a robbery attempt regarding a vehicle posted to Facebook Marketplace, and when the two people were directed to an alley to look at the vehicle, several others tried to rob the two, and shots rang out from both the robbery suspects and one of the victims.
One of the robbery victims had a legal permit to carry a gun from another state and police say won’t be charged.
The case is still being investigated, and is also under review from Peoria County State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos’ office.
