MORTON, Ill. – Work is underway at the new Precision Planting facility in Morton.
The 510,000-square ft. facility opened in October, and will produce more than 40 products once it becomes fully operational. It will focus on assembling retrofit technologies and shipping products to more than 30 counties, which include yield monitors, planting sensors, and fertilizer applications.
General Manager Kevin Crow says one of the main goals with the new facility was to bring all of the company’s operations in one place.
“By the time we started this project in 2022, by that time, we had already had expanded to seven locations here locally, and so to be able to get everything under one roof, help provide some consolidation, provided efficiency to better support our farmers and our dealers,” Crow said.
Crow says one of the focuses of operations at their new facility includes embracing new technologies that shift away from a more manual process of labor.
“We want to help enable and make jobs easier for our employee base, so we were able to invest in AutoStore, which is a goods to person machine,” Crow said. “We were also able to invest in automatic packaging machines, as well as conveyance.”
Crow says even with the automation technology at the new facility, Precision Planting has added around 100 new jobs in Morton.
He says some of the jobs include technical IT staff to help with automation, manufacturing and shipping roles, and even an occupational nurse.
Crow says the facility can expand its north wall for future growth to add about 400,000-square ft.
