PEORIA, Ill. – A dog passed away after a house fire in Peoria early Wednesday morning.
Peoria Fire says crews were called to W. Virginia Ave., just off McClure, at around 5:45 A.M., arriving to find heavy smoke coming from the front door of the ranch style home.
Multiple crews entered and found smoke and flames coming from the home’s basement. The fire was put out in the basement, but had spread to the first floor and attic.
Gas and power was cut off to prevent further hazards from occurring, and extra crews were called in to assist, due to weather conditions causing several hydrants to be inoperable.
The homeowner was outside when firefighters arrived, but stated that the dog was still inside. The dog was found deceased by crews.
firefighters remained on scene to put out hot spots that might flare up in the attic.
There were no injuries. Two fire investigators were called to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
