WASHINGTON, D.C. –A crowd of pro-life activists are expected to march on the national mall in Washington, D.C. Friday to show support for efforts to restrict abortion access.
The annual rally, which coincides with the anniversary of 1973’s Roe v. Wade’s Supreme Court ruling, is expected to attract thousands of people including high-level conservatives.
The first March for Life took place in 1974, a year after Roe v. Wade legalized abortion nationwide.
Fox News says House Speaker Mike Johnson and Rep. Chris Smith, co-chair of the Congressional pro-life caucus, are both scheduled to speak at the event.
Sen. Chuck Schumer said this week that he wants the “anti-choice activists” descending on D.C. on Friday to know “they are a shrinking minority in America.”
Next week, President Biden will hold a rally in Virginia focused on abortion rights.
Despite the high court ruling striking down Roe v. Wade in 2022, justices will hear two major abortion related appeals this term.
Over the weekend, people in support of reproductive justice and abortion rights will gather in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday.
Speakers at the Phoenix “Women’s March” will include attorney and reproductive rights activist Gloria Allred.
