PEORIA, Ill. – Rain falling Tuesday morning has Peoria’s main, arterial streets slushy and drivable.
Peoria Public Works’ Nick McMillion says residential streets remain icy and slick. Road conditions are better than they were for Monday morning’s commute.
Drivers are asked to use caution, especially in neighborhoods and when approaching intersections. Go slow and stay aware of changing road conditions and be aware of minor puddling on arterial streets, McMillion says.
Melting snow and ice and rain are contributing to puddling as the water tries to enter storm drains.
“When approaching any pooling or puddling water, remember to slow down, but do not slam on your brakes,” McMillion says.
Pedestrians using sidewalks should be especially careful and be aware of slick and icy conditions. Any untreated surfaces in parking lots or driveways will also be slick.
Peoria’s Snowfighters will continue to treat and monitor streets throughout the day Tuesday and the rest of the week as conditions improve.
