Peoria Police were called to the 300 block of E. Virginia early Sunday morning on an unknown problem.
A female called for police assistance, but the call was disconnected at approximately 4:25 a.m. When the dispatcher tried to call back, no one answered.
Officers arrived on the scene to find a man outside the home with a gun. He refused to drop his weapon, then fired two shots at an officer.
Police returned fire, but neither the suspect nor the officer were hit in the exchange of fire.
The suspect, now identified as Jordan Cremer, 27, fled the scene in a vehicle eastbound on Virginia, with officers in pursuit.
The chase ended after approximately one block, when the Cremer crashed into the porch of a home in the 2600 block of N. Missouri.
Cremer was taken into custody at the scene of the crash without further incident. During the pursuit, Cremer threw a handgun from the vehicle. It was later recovered.
Cremer was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated assault to police (2 counts), fleeing and eluding, and various traffic citations, and transported to the Peoria County Jail.
No one was injured during this incident including the female who originally called requesting police.
Peoria Police will continue the investigation into the original incident and the Illinois State Police will continue to investigate the shooting.
A total of three Shotspotter alerts were received during the incident from 4:30 a.m. to 4:31 a.m.
Public Information Officer Amy Dotson says the officers involved will be placed on Critical Incident Leave per department policy.
Pursuant to Illinois State Statute, Illinois State Police must handle the investigation of any shooting where police officers are involved. Any and all evidence including dash cam and body camera footage will be turned over to the ISP.
