PEORIA, Ill. – Thousands involved in music from across Illinois are meeting in Peoria this week for an annual conference.
From Wednesday through Saturday, the Peoria Civic Center will host the Illinois Music Educators Association conference. The event will cap on Saturday with all-state music students performing concerts.
Discover Peoria’s J.D. Dalfonso tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that people in central Illinois this week will see people attending the conference almost everywhere.
“Particularly, Peoria, East Peoria hotels will be filled to the brim. You’re going to see high school students carrying trumpets or trombones or any instruments throughout the week in downtown or the Levee District,” Dalfonso said.
Dalfonso says around 3,400 hotel rooms have been booked in Peoria, East Peoria, and in surrounding communities. He says they’ll also be contributing to the local economy.
“It’s one thing to fill the hotel rooms, and they do that and they do that well, but they gotta eat here, and they want to explore, I would say discover the region, as well,” Dalfonso said.
Dalfonso estimates the conference will bring in around $125,000 in local tax revenue to the area.
