PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriffs Department is reporting yet another scam involving a phone caller purporting to be a deputy.
Sheriffs department officials say several people have called them today (Monday) saying they got a call from someone pretending to be a sheriffs deputy and accuses the caller of having an outstanding warrant.
Seniors, the department says, may be the most targeted.
They also say a gift card or another form of payment will get the warrant cleared up, wanting to stay on the phone with you until you go to the store and purchase a gift card.
The sheriffs department says hang up immediately, because it is a scam. They also say they do not call people to tell them of warrants.
