WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tammy Duckworth says “not so fast” when it comes to attacking Iran following the weekend drone attack that killed three U.S. soldiers and injured dozens more.
Duckworth, an Illinois Democrat, spoke on the Senate Floor Thursday afternoon, referenced Senator Lindsay Graham’s post where he suggested the Biden administration to, “hit them now and hit them hard….”
“I will also do everything in my power to remind those who today are so eagerly pushing us down a path to war, that there are serious repercussions involved for the Americans who would actually be in harm’s way, even if they may not be felt by politicians here in Washington,” said Duckworth.
Duckworth, who was severely injured when her Blackhawk helicopter crashed during the Iraq War, says if Senators are that certain they want to attack Iran that strongly, they should pass legislation declaring war on Iran.
Duckworth was critical of politicians like Graham who she says were quick to show up on social media and television to make their thoughts known.
“Under both the federal law known as the War Powers Act, and Article 1 of the Constitution, only Congress has the solemn responsibility of deciding when and how the United States sends its troops in to war,” said Duckworth.
As of right now, Duckworth says she supports President Biden’s plan to attack in stages.
