CHICAGO, Ill. – The name of D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is not unfamiliar to the Senate, or to its Judiciary Committee.
That committee’s chair is Illinois Senator Dick Durbin.
“She has appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee three different occasions,” said Durbin (D-Springfield) in Chicago Friday, “and received bi-partisan support, most recently within the last year. She’s an extraordinary person, in terms of her life story, and her professional qualifications to serve on the court. She has published over 500 opinions as a judge.”
Jackson is President Biden’s nominee for Supreme Court Justice, replacing Stephen Breyer when he steps down at end of the current term.
“We are going to start the formal investigation of this nominee today,” said Durbin. “We are hoping to move her to a hearing soon, within the next several weeks, and then report that to the Senate floor as soon as possible.”
Illinois’ other Senator, Tammy Duckworth, had not yet issued a statement on Jackson as of the time this story was first published Friday.
